KRANSKLOOF TRAILS

The trails are on Ronald Bartlett’s farm situated on the Northern slopes of the Magaliesberg in the North West Province.

The farm is in the Sparkling Waters Hotel area approximately 30 km East of Rustenburg, 80 km from Pretoria and 120 km from Johannesburg.

This is one of the few unspoilt natural areas within a 1-1½ hour drive from Gauteng.

ACCOMMODATION is in a hut sleeping 20 people on bunk beds with mattresses.  A 220 V generator for lights is available – bring your own petrol.  Lights are in the ablution block which has a “donkey” for hot water showers, and flush toilets.

Water on tap is pure spring water originating from high in the mountain.

COOKING.  The site has outside braai facilities.  Three legged pots, (sizes 10, 3 and 2) and a steak pan are available for use.  Wood is available on site.

A covered cooking area has a gas stove installed.  There is a sink for washing up

TRAILS: There are two well- marked circular trails graded as easy to moderate and they are each about 8-10 km long.  Links between the trails allow for shorter walks for the less experienced hiker.

The Frithia Trail goes up nearly to the top of the Magaliesberg and then down the Kranskloof.

The trails begin and end at a base camp that is in a dense clump of indigenous trees.

The Moepel Trail winds along through the mountain and kloofs and returns via interesting “mushroom” rock formations.

CAMPING:

Camping sites with water and “bush” toilets and showers are available.
