WHITE WATER RAFTING

We at Dimalachite are proud to say that
what you book is what you will get.
Your trip will be safe and you will enjoy the best stretch of rapids on the Vaal River.

Rafting is an excellent teambuilding exercise. No swimming skills are needed. It is also popular as a break away for friends and families.

Rafting normally start at 09:00 when our guides welcomes you at the boathouse. There you will receive a life jacket and helmet, and prepare for the day of fun on the river. There will be a dry barrel available for small items like personal medicine etc. You will be transported to the put in point by truck, where a guide will give a safety talk and brief you on navigating the raft through the rapids etc. You will enjoy the way it is presented, and will feel much more comfortable on the river. No experience or swimming skills is needed. Our guides are under leadership of Awie, who has 10 years of experience with no incident.

The first rapids - jaws and claws, paradise, dog’s leg, v-trap and stepping stones are not very tactical. It give you time to get into the feeling on handling the paddle and steer the raft. It also gives our guides time help and sort out any paddling problems before you had to navigate the bigger rapids. Bistro, theatre and gatsien rapid are some of the best rapids on the river, and a must for any person. Normally the guides stop at paradise for cold drinks and some fun in the rapid. The next stop is at gatsien where you can participate in activities. From there you will paddle through lover’s lane to the last rapid - baby knuckle crusher.

Dimalachite's rafting start at Fleetwood (the most popular put in point) with no long stretches of killing flat water before hitting the first rapid, and our take out point is at Dimalachite. We use 2 man rafts on the normal level, and you will be back around lunchtime. Back at camp lunch will be served if you booked it with the rafting. We have braai facilities on the riverside that you can use if you want to prepare your own lunch.

Quadbikes will be available during the afternoon for those who want to do it. You can also participate in teambuilding activities like the “survivor challenge”, paintball or slide down the Zip line into the river.

When the river is in flood, we do Captain Morgan, Rum and Coke rapids, instead of baby knuckle crusher, and we use BIG 8 man Rafts to take you through this major rapids (grade 3 / 4).

Depending on the level and speed of the river, the time to complete the rafting may be much faster. It is too cold for rafting from 31 May to 15 August. Other teambuilding activities are available.

Make sure you booked with an established company with a safety record!!
Confirm the put in and take out points, as well as the time on the water, because there are companies that do only a short stretch and you will miss the best rapids.
