For those who like to explore, the Overberg has a number of options: just over an hour's drive to Cape L'Agulhus (where the Atlantic and Indian oceans really do meet!) climb to the top of the light house and visit the lighthouse museum. Your journey via Elim a charming historical Moravian mission town with a stone water mill and the only monument for the abolition of slavery in South Africa is well worth the drive. Lunch at Arniston (the whole fishing village is a national monument with original quaint thatched fishermen's cottages). Complete your journey back to Saxon Lodge, via Bredasdorp, which has the only shipwreck museum in South Africa. Or you can visit Caledon, 45 minutes away and try you luck at their Casino, or visit a Spa with series of hot mineral spring pools - indulge yourself with a massage or beauty treatment! Sunset Cruises, Wine tasting in the Hamel & Aarde valley (Heaven & Earth valley) with some 8 wine estates; cheese tasting on a cheese farm and beer tasting in our local micro brewery, for folk who prefer to relax and enjoy the fruits of the Overberg. |

Whale Watching from our stunning De Kelder's cliffs
- or a boat cruise around Dyer Island (marine bird sanctuary) and geyser Rock
(Cape fur seal colony), when you can have a really "up close and personal"
encounter with these magnificent creatures in their own environment. High whale season for Southern Right Whales is August to the end of December when there are many "mother and child" encounters - awesome!!! Gansbaai is the International Mecca for Cage Diving with Great White Sharks and we specialise in arranging shark diving experience for individuals and groups. Saxon Lodge has been host to many dive groups and TV crews from around the world who come to experience and film this "ultimate adrenaline rush
