GROENVLEI is situated in the SNEEUBERG mountain range in the GRAAFF-REINET district of the EASTERN CAPE approximately 64km from RICHMOND (on the N1): Follow the GROENVLEI signs through RICHMOND, after 4km turn left at the GROENVLEI signboard.
If you are travelling from PORT ELIZABETH, it is approximately 64km from GRAAFF-REINET: Follow the R63 out of GRAAFF-REINET for 26km, turn right at the RICHMOND/GROENVLEI signboard.
If you decide to visit NIEU-BETHESDA first, GROENVLEI is approximately 40km from this famous hamlet: leave the village via Martin Street in a westerly direction and follow the GROENVLEI signboards.
The Karoo Climate:
In summer the average temperature is
26°C; which is pleasant compared to the normal heat expected in the Karoo. This
is due to the high altitude (2000m above sea-level) here in the Sneeuberg range.
The winters are cold with regular
snowfalls! Spring and autumn are mild with the odd unpredictable windy spell or cold front moving in. But nobody can make exact weather predictions... so this is simply a guide. So bring your cool tops, sun-hats, thick jackets, gloves and beanies!
