GROENVLEI FARM GUEST HOUSE

Groenvlei Farm Guesthouse ('Green marsh'), a working Karoo merino sheep farm, is situated in the heart of the Sneeuberg, close to historical Graaff-Reinet and Nieu-Bethesda (famous for its Owl House).
We welcome you to real peace and tranquillity.
At GROENVLEI one can unwind and enjoy a safe, carefree farm getaway for the whole family

Accommodation (self-catering or catered) is offered in either a 4-, 2- or 1-bedroomed cottage that you have entirely to yourself.
Your unit is fully serviced daily to enable you to take a real break!
Wood and braaiing facilities are available, as well as electric blankets and fireplaces in each cottage for winter when snowfalls are possible...

No stay at GROENVLEI is complete without experiencing our very popular traditional farm cuisine; menus and meal times will gladly be adapted to suit your preferences. A typical menu would include roast leg of lamb, venison pie, roast potatoes, fresh veggies from the garden, salad and milk tart.

WHAT TO DO ON GROENVLEI

GROENVLEI is a place where there is something for young and old.

ARCHAEOLOGY: Visit the various fossil sites (200 million years old) or let us show you the stoneage sites (150 000 years old).

BIRDING:Take your checklist with you and see how many of the 205 identified species you can spot! Maybe you see a  new species that we have not seen before!

CYCLING:Follow one of the hiking trails or just set off into the sunset! Bicycles provided.

How about milking a cow or feeding a lamb!

As GROENVLEI is a working merino sheep farm visitors can experience life on the farm upclose

HIKING:On GROENVLEI there are 12 marked hiking trails, ranging from a short 1km "Bossiepad" (50 typical Karoo plants have been identified) to a longer 20km mountainous, winding farm track

HORSE RIDING:Saddle up and head off into open spaces

HUNTING:Biltong lovers can enquire about hunting; small groups and family welcome!

SWIMMING:Swim in a clean cement dam, filled daily with fresh, sulphurous borehole water

TENNIS:Bring your racket and balls and play as long as you like

VOLLEY BALL:Work up an appetite by playing as a family!

OR:

Just relax and watch the sun go down and the stars come out!
