Enjoy the tranquility of our private 25 acres with pure spring water and lovely views. Two short walks are available on the property and we encourage visitors to add to our check list of over 100 bird species. For the more energetic there is river tubing, canoeing, horse-riding, tennis, squash and golf available nearby. Enjoy our river site picnic site. The more serious hiker can visit the Drakensberg conservation areas nearby where one can do trails of varying degrees of difficulty.

Fly fish in our trout dam, access to other private or club waters can also be organized. We arrange trips up Sani Pass. This is a must and often proves to be a highlight of our visitors’ stay. This entails a cross border trip into Lesotho; therefore passports are required.

Directions

Take the N3 to Howick. Take the R617 to Underberg (off route 99 to Howick South/Southern Drakensberg/Underberg). Carry straight on through Underberg for approx. 4 km. Turn right onto the Drakensberg Gardens Resorts Road. Measure 3,7km and find Eagles’ Rock on your right.

This pristine farming area is one of South Africa’s premier trout fishing destinations. Our Retreat is magnificently positioned on a mountain plateau overlooking the Umzimkulu River and lush farmlands. Being owner-run ensures you a very warm welcome, wonderful hospitality and an enjoyable holiday. All cottages are fully equipped for self-catering with stove, microwave, fridge, crockery, cutlery and bedding. Each has a private braai (barbecue) area. Optional Breakfast: A hearty country breakfast is served in the main dining-room – the perfect way to start an eventful day in the Drakensberg. Honeymoon in Kestrel or Falcon. Bring the whole family and friends to Lammergeier log cabin or Sparrowhawk log and block cottage. Enjoy winter evenings before a cosy log fire. All cottages are comfortably apportioned, fully equipped, and serviced from Monday to Saturday. An extra charge will be levied for a service on Sunday viz. These must be arranged prior to arrival. We are the ideal “getaway from it all” destination. (But for those who require to stay in touch we do have good cell phone reception.) Chalets may be occupied at 14H00 on the day of arrival and must be vacated by 10H00 on the day of departure.
